Liverpool are nearing a first move of the summer transfer window even after failing to land Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad as Arne Slot awaits the first signing of his Liverpool tenure

Liverpool still await their first summer transfer with the new Premier League season just a day away.

Arne Slot arrived at Anfield earlier this summer to work with a group of players he was unfamiliar with and has thus far been unable to add his own flavour. The Dutchman has been adamant in recent weeks that it is difficult to find the required quality to improve his group however, though few would have expected no signings with just two weeks of the window remaining.

Martin Zubimendi appeared to be the figure chosen to strenthen the Reds' midfield but he ultimately decided to remain with Real Sociedad. Now, Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili could become the first signing of the Slot-era, though he may go straight out on loan.

Liverpool 'agree terms'

Liverpool have agreed personal terms for Mamardashvili, per Fabrizio Romano. The Reds are said to be succession planning in hoping to prise the goalkeeper from Valencia before sending him out on loan, possibly to Bournemouth, due to already having Alisson at their disposal.

Mamardashvili's agent was said to have arrived in Spain to negotiate the deal with his current club with the Georgia international keen on making the transfer. The La Liga side are reported to have already rejected one offer.

"Liverpool have agreed personal terms with Mamardashvili," said Romano. "Bournemouth are open to signing him, then he’d become the Reds' new goalkeeper after Alisson. Agents now in Valencia for club talks, but no agreement yet."

Sepp van den Berg interest

Liverpool have already turned down a bid from PSV for defender Sepp van den Berg, and they've now been sent a message by Mainz boss Christian Heidel. Van den Berg spent last season on loan at the German club.

Heidel hopes to welcome the 22-year-old back at his club, though they are unable to complete a permanent deal. With time beginning to tick down, the 61-year-old even hopes Van den Berg will push for the move.

“We are a bit dependent on FC Liverpool," he said. "I know that he would very much like to return to Mainz. Perhaps the player’s voice will play a role in Liverpool’s decision.

“Of course, it is Liverpool’s legitimate right to put a price tag on the player. But then there has to be a club willing to pay that price, and the player has to want to go there.

“As of today, that’s not the case, which is why we still have a chance. If Liverpool loans him out for another year, then we are the perfect club. Sepp would confirm that as well. We are waiting a bit longer and preparing ourselves in case it doesn’t work out.”

Celtic eye Liverpool star

Celtic are interested in signing Wataru Endo this summer with reports suggesting the Japan captain is available from Liverpool. The midfielder arrived at Anfield 12 months ago and made 43 appearances last term.

Endo is said to have already seen a bid from Marseille rejected but is believed to be behind Ryan Gavenberch and Stefan Bajcetic in the pecking order, even with the Reds yet to sign midfield reinforcements.

It has prompted interest from the Bhoys, but with a £15m fee required, he could prove too expensive.
